KONRAD HERMANN HEMPEL
Konrad Hempel lives and works as a visual artist, composer and musician, filmmaker and author in Berlin. He studied history, musicology and philosophy and finally visual communication at weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. He completed his „Meisterschüler“ with Alex Jordan and Barbara Junge. His work is primarily concerned with space, the intersection of the real and virtual worlds, as well as text, sound and information. He creates installations, sound spaces, video and painting works, films, acoustic, visual and spatial compositions, which have been shown at the Akademie der Künste, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin and the Museo Monjo in Barcelona, among others. Coming from the squatter and underground scene, he was a founding member of the open Berlin stage ABTEILUNG HÖREN UND SEHEN, an experimental space between art and satire, from 1998 to 2003. He deals with experimental as well as electronic and underground music, but also composes for films, silent movies and for theaters. Since 1994 he has toured with his band Yellowback in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and the Czech Republic, among other countries, and has released more than 6 albums. With ALP, new compositions for silent film classics were created with live performances in Europe and the USA, including the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. For DIE SINFONIE DER UNGEWISSHEIT the formation Elementarstrategien was created. He works, among others, at the Thalia Theater Hamburg, at the Residenztheater Munich, at the Schauspielhaus Zurich, at the National Theaters Luxembourg and Zagreb or at Den Norske Opera in Oslo; as a member of the performance and multimedia collective SCHWINDEL and with performances such as IRRLICHTER and IMPROVISATION 0108 but also in clubs and galleries. In 2014, together with Claudia Lehmann, he founded the Institute for Experimental Affairs, IXA. The institute sees itself as a mediator between art and science and launches, initiates, realizes and produces diverse projects in various contexts. Konrad Hempel teaches at Berlin University of the Arts, weißensee kunsthochschule berlin and University Mozarteum Salzburg, among others.

KONRAD HERMANN HEMPEL
Konrad Hempel lebt und arbeitet als Bildender Künstler, Komponist und Musiker, Filmemacher und Autor in Berlin. Er studierte Geschichte, Musikwissenschaft und Philosophie und schließlich Visuelle Kommunikation an der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin. Seinen Meisterschüler absolvierte er bei Alex Jordan und Barbara Junge. In seinen Arbeiten geht es vor allem um Raum, die Überschneidung von realer und virtueller Welt sowie Text, Sound und Information. Es entstehen Installationen, Klangräume, Video- und Malereiarbeiten, Filme, akustische, visuelle und räumliche Kompositionen, die unter anderem in der Akademie der Künste, dem Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin und dem Museo Monjo in Barcelona zu sehen waren. Aus der Hausbesetzer- und Undergroundszene kommend, war er von 1998 bis 2003 als Gründer Mitglied der offenen Berliner Bühne ABTEILUNG HÖREN UND SEHEN, einem Experimentierraum zwischen Kunst und Satire. Er beschäftigt sich mit experimenteller sowie E- und U-Musik, komponiert aber auch für auch Filme, Stummfilme und für die Bühne. Mit seiner Band Yellowback tourte er seit 1994 u.a. in Deutschland, den Niederlanden, Dänemark und Tschechien und veröffentlichte mehr als 6 Alben. Mit ALP entstanden Neukompositionen für Stummfilmklassiker mit Live-Auftritten in Europa und den USA, u.a. dem Castro Theatre in San Francisco. Für DIE SINFONIE DER UNGEWISSHEIT entstand die Formation Elementarstrategien. Konrad Hempel lehrt unter anderem an der Universität der Künste Berlin, der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin und der Universität Mozarteum Salzburg.
